A heartwarming encounter: Buddhist monks on their way to Phú Yên

When strangers become family

ChiMi has always been about more than just providing rooms. We meet all kinds of guests here: tourists exploring Saigon, business travelers passing through, families on vacation. Some encounters, however, stay with you forever, and this is the story of one such meeting that truly touched our hearts.

A Buddhist monk and his three disciples booked two rooms with us recently. They were traveling to Tân Sơn Nhất Airport early the next morning, heading to Phú Yên for volunteer work. ChiMi was simply a convenient place to stay before their flight, nothing more, nothing less. When they booked, they probably thought it would be just another room near the airport, a purely practical choice for their journey.

Warm welcome at ChiMi

The moment they stepped into ChiMi, though, something unexpected happened. Their faces lit up with surprise and delight. The warm, cozy atmosphere we've worked so hard to create made an instant impression on them, and they felt welcomed immediately. We started talking, and I learned about their mission: they were carrying bags full of supplies, rice, necessities, things to help people in remote communities in Central Vietnam.

A home-cooked meal from the heart

They asked me a simple question: "Is there a vegetarian restaurant nearby?" Instead of pointing them to a restaurant, ChiMi made a different decision. "Let me cook for you," I said.

Sharing a meal together

That evening, ChiMi prepared a full Vietnamese vegetarian meal for them. This wasn't just instant noodles or a simple fried rice. It was a proper meal: braised dishes, stir-fried vegetables, soup, rice, everything you would expect at a family dinner. They were traveling far to do good work and to help people, so the least ChiMi could do was give them a warm, hearty meal before they continued their journey.

More than just guests

After dinner, we sat together, talked, and shared stories. They showed us photos of their previous volunteer trips, and we exchanged contact information. For that evening, we weren't host and guests anymore; we were family. The next morning, they left early to catch their flight to Phú Yên, carrying all those supplies to help communities in need.

Family moment at ChiMi

This experience taught ChiMi something important about what this place should be. We're not just running a business here. We're building connections and supporting journeys that matter. ChiMi loves welcoming guests with different stories, and this particular story moved us deeply.

Our promise to volunteer groups

If you're traveling through Saigon on your way to do volunteer work, whether it's building schools in rural areas, helping communities after disasters, or any charitable mission, ChiMi wants to support you. We don't need to be physically present at the volunteer site to make a difference. Sometimes, supporting the journey is just as meaningful as being there.

ChiMi supporting volunteers

Whether you're a tourist exploring Saigon, a business traveler needing a quiet night's rest, or volunteers on your way to change the world, you're welcome at ChiMi. Come as a guest. Leave as family.
